From My Heart to Yours

In May of 2023, Karen and I had the opportunity to travel to the area of Williamstown, Kentucky, to visit the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter (both of which are operated by Ken Hamm’s ministry, “Answers in Genesis”).  At the end of our tour of the ark, we came to a walled mural centered upon the theme of “the door.”  This mural depicts the ways in which the Bible portrays Jesus Christ as the door of salvation from sin to both Jew and Gentile alike, and focuses upon five specific passages of Scripture:      Exodus 12:13— refers to the blood of a lamb on the doorpost of the Hebrew homes just prior to their exodus from the land of Egypt.     Hebrews 10:4— both chapters 9 and 10 allude to Jesus as our Great High Priest, who entered into the Holy of Holies “once for all, having obtained eternal redemption” (cf. 9:12).     John 10:7 – 10— here Jesus gives one of His “I Am” statements, declaring, “I am the door.  If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved…” (v.9).     Matthew 7:13 – 14— Jesus’ teaching at this point in His “Sermon on the Mount” indicates something of the intentionality and demands of the way of salvation.     Revelation 3:20— in the closing segment of His letter to the church in Laodicea, Jesus declared, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” This past Sunday (September 22nd), we began a series of messages focused

Life at Euclid 09/14/2023

276-669-6168 office@eabcchurch.com 900 Euclid Avenue, Bristol, VA 24201 In light of the unexpected death of Lynette Elam last week (on Tuesday, September 5th), I felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to share a message of pastoral encouragement from James 4:13 – 17 for this past Sunday.  I entitled the message, “Make the Most of This Life!” The Apostle James gives us at least four primary thoughts to consider from vv.13 – 17: At the outset of this message, let us be guarded against drawing some false conclusions concerning what this passage of Scripture does, and does not, teach.  James does not rebuke diligent planning, honest business practices, a strong work ethic, careful provision, or well-earned gain in these verses.  The book of Proverbs alone provides ample encouragement and instruction to us regarding the responsibility to provide, and plan, for the future.  However, this passage of Scripture exhorts us to live this life from an eternal perspective, and to redeem the time and opportunities God has provided us in this life.  I am convinced that the Lord wants to instill this truth within our hearts and minds on a daily basis— under the authority of the Lordship of Jesus, make the most of the life we have been given.  When you were a kid, did you ever stick your finger (or two) in a clear glass of water just to look at the shape and size your finger(s) would reflect while in the water?  I would say that most of us
